Boldon C of E Primary School
'Save Our School' campaign
Saving the little school with a big heart (and a bigger voice!)
22nd Oct 2007
Parents and children today took a stand against the proposed closure of Boldon C of E school. More than 100 parents and children marched through South Shields, from the market place, down King Street, up Fowler Street finishing at the town hall.
Over 100 parents and children from the school demonstrated how passionate we all are regarding the proposal to close Boldon C of E Primary school.
Banners proudly carried aloft and balloons were waved carrying the Save Our School logo by young and old. Some of the children felt so strongly that they had made their own banners and t-shirts.
Chanting could be heard throughout the Town centre, making passers by stop and show support. Shoppers and workers took the time to stand in shop doorways, drivers tooted their horns and stopped to allow the march to cross roads.
Emotions ran high as we all made the stand to demonstrate the outrage at this proposal to close such a uniquely caring school. The little school with the big heart showed how loud and proud their voice will be throughout the consultation process and bayond if needs be.
The petition with over 4,000 signatures was then handed over to Councillor Jim Foreman outside the Town Hall, with futher signatures still being left on the campaign website. Parents and children had been given an invitation to go inside the Town Hall to hand over the petition and have refreshments, however, due to unfortunate circumstances this had to be withdrawn.
Reporters from the South Shields Gazette where there to meet the protest and a report should be published tomorrow.
A lot of these photos come to us via local author and journalist Mike Hallowell who accompanied us on the march.

The rabble begins to gather
Just about ready to begin, banners aloft (they were heavy you know)
Behind those banners people are frantically blowing up baloons.
And we're off, next stop Town Hall
On the home straight
Settling down on the Town Hall steps
